I think it is handled by the Virtual Cockpit software. It receives region information and makes the decision.

Only way to recover is to desolder the NOR chip on the MMX board and re-flash it with a correct image. Alternatively find the JTAG pins on the MMX board and do the same without the need to desolder the NOR chip. No matter what you will need to open up the MIB2.

yes. You need "root" access. Then you can use the QNX commands "dd" or "cat" to copy to the SDCard or USB key. If no root, only other way is JTAG...

There is a check in bootloader and some of the images are hardware dependent and will simply not boot.

I am going to grab the damaged image and put back the .img that I screwed up.... bootloader seems ok..

If this is the same as the Audi MIB2 you need to get into IPL mode. To do this, short TTL Tx to ground and restart MIB2.
