It is not going to work, the unit needs a extra board attached to the mainboard (on the right side).
This board has the telit chip for wland and GSM/UMTS and the antenna connector.

so, maybe it can be possible to find out this chip and attach to mainboard so it will work?

Hello All,
If I understand right on the MMI 3G without sim there are not the:
1) Sim card holder (can be soldered between the two SD card slots)
2) The GSM / UMTS telit module.

Anyone have more photos/ info regarding where the Telit module is located on a MMI3G with sim?
My MMI have not the SIM and I cannot dismount it to see which and where the GSM module is located.
Thks

Hi, this is what the GSM / UMTS Module Looks like.

27959

if you open the unit - front side pointing to you -
it is located on the right side on the backside of the unit.
There is a small connector soldered to the board
where the module is plugged in.

Interesting.
So the module you taken in the picture in connected using a flat cable to the mainboard of the MMI right?
You have opened the module you taken in the picture? If yes could you post more pictures? I think it is a standard telit module....
Thanks

Hi, no, no flat cable module has the A connector on its left bottom
it is directely plugged onto the connector on the main pcb

sorry i do not have more pictures
the unit is already back in the car.

i do not think it is any standard module
the antenna connector is on the backside of the module
seems to be special made for the mmi unit.

maybe we can find this module in stores and connect it to MMI? googling PPIS UMTS and BE9449 gets only some pages, but none of them can sell it

It is the telit uc864-e (vendor=0x1bc7,device=0x1003), probably on a mother board and sealed in a metal case.
The module UC864-e is USB based, so maybey it is possible to use the other usb for data only.
For voice calling there have to be more lines connected.

In the HB Metal Case is located the standard Telit UC864-E Module-AUTO GSM Usage for Europe and in the NAR (US) Units it is an Telit UC864-AWS-AUTO. On the Free market, there is A way to buy the Telit print-mount units only (means without the HB Case) via the Telit distribution network.

is it possible to swap the internal UC864 unit in the metal case.
I have a NAR version and wantto have the EU version.

Yes, I think so. In Germany the UC864-E-AUTO costs around 150 EUR. The local distributors were listet on the Telit webside "www.telit.com" for each country.

After exchange of the GSM-unit you have to reflash the right MMI3GP software, means K0767 or K0770 depending of the MMI Unit.

Has anyone replaced the Telit UC864?
I have seen adapter boards that should work with a Telit HE910 and LE910 which are faster. http://www.roundsolutions.com/shop/products/en/Modules/UMTS/HE910-Connector-30x36/HSPA-Module-B2B-Connector-R-UC864-H9.html and https://adaptivemodules.co.uk/index.cfm/fa/shopdetails/Product_ID/1055

I´ve tried a little bit playing with the GSM modules. The next step must be to migrade to the EU LTE level with change of the module...
To modify the used AT command set in the relevant scripts should not be the problem.

I think we should try:

Telit HE910-G (21Mbps HSPA+ on frequency bands 800/850, 900, AWS 1700, 1900, 2100MHz) - http://www.telit.com/products/product-service-selector/product-service-selector/show/product/he910-series/
Telit LE910-EUG (100Mbps LTE on frequency bands 800, 1800, 2600MHz & 42Mbps HSPA+ on frequency bands 850, 900, 2100MHz) - http://www.telit.com/products/product-service-selector/product-service-selector/show/product/le910-series-1/
Telit LE910-EU V2 (150Mbps LTE on frequency bands 800, 900, 1800, 2100, 2600MHz & 42Mbps HSPA on frequency bands 900, 2100Mbps) - http://www.telit.com/products/product-service-selector/product-service-selector/show/product/le910-v2-1/

All of these would require the adapter board. This is because UC864 used the 80pin connector, but xE910 use the LGA connector. The adapter board is available from:

https://adaptivemodules.co.uk/index.cfm/fa/shopdetails/Product_ID/1055
http://www.roundsolutions.com/shop/products/en/Modules/UMTS/HE910-Connector-30x36/HSPA-Module-B2B-Connector-R-UC864-H9.html

Guides to using the adapter boards are here:

http://www.adaptivemodules.com/assets/telit/C10-board-GUIDE-V3.pdf
http://www.roundsolutions.com/techdocs/ds/R-UC864_v3.pdf

Who wants to be the first to try it?

There are two other problems that need solving:

Telit UC864-E-AUTO has 1 antenna connector. The new models all have 2 or 3 antenna connectors. Can they work with only 1 antenna? Or can the antenna be split to connect the extra connectors?
Telit UC864-E-AUTO used a landing pad for its antenna using Rosenberger B2B connector 99CI106-030Z. This will need to be connected by microwave cable to the antenna port on the new model.

А у меня проблема осталась открытой. По прежнему не ловит сеть вообще! 3GP SIM USA
Ребята, подскажите! Все-таки какой модуль нужно купить, чтобы заработала сеть 3G.
Я даже готов заплатить, чтобы мне кто-нибудь сделал.
Audi Q7 2012 USA
Спасибо!

The reflash is verified? I have an Audi A4 from US with the Telit UC864-AWS (US Version), but the MMI 3gp has already european FW and maps, the phone works ok but just in 2g as 3g bands differ on EU. Im thinking on changing to the UC864-E, got answer on another thread that i need solder the new chip (no plug in seems), but if i need to reflash more things maybe i pass and keep just 2g, hehe. More things to do, more ways to fail on it

The UC864 has a connector to the PCB side. But the shielded housing was soldered on the PCB.
No problem for the right equipment.
After correct installation of the EU Firmware and the correct EEProm Area Settings, it will work fine in UMTS with 3G in EU.

any news on it? the only difference between umts and lte module is AT command set ? will it be recognized using same drivers?
